Why John Mayer Is So Loved by All of Us

John Mayer’s “Livin’ on a Prayer” is now the most streamed song on Spotify and its on top of the Billboard Hot 100, according to new data from Nielsen SoundScan.
Mayer, whose “LIVIN ON A PROMISE” topped the chart for a third consecutive week on Thursday, also leads the charts with 1.8 million streams and 2.8 billion songs.
The song’s lead is the biggest lead of any artist with over 10 million streams, and the highest lead by a male artist since Beyoncé’s “Formation” led for seven weeks in 2013.
“LIVE” leads with 1 million streams.
Mayer’s lead on the Billboard 200 is the second-highest since 2015, when it was at 1.4 million.
“Livina” is the only artist on the chart with a lead over five million, with four million streams or more.
Other top performers include Bobby Shmurda’s “The Anthem,” which has 3.3 million streams; Jay-Z’s “Runaway” with 3.2 million; and Nicki Minaj’s “Rude Boy,” which is at 3.1 million.
The Billboard 200 chart ranks the most popular albums in the U.S. by the digital streaming platforms where they were released.
Songs with the most airplay on Spotify, Apple Music, Rdio and Tidal are not included.
The top 20 songs on Spotify peaked on Aug. 2, 2018 with “Livermore,” which had over 1.2 billion streams.
